Do you have a friend that loves you in spite of yourself? One that never turns their back on you? Always ready with a smile and a hug?
This is a story about Tia. The most precious friend I could ever have. Did I rescue her or did she rescue me? Now that’s a good question. As you have probably guessed my best friend is of the four legged variety. She is our first rescue and is such a joy! I think rescued animals are so appreciative that someone saved them from the sad situation they were living in that they give continual love.
I want to share a pet rescue that I admire and support. Poodles and Pooch Rescue of Orlando, FL. I found this rescue 3 years ago when my husband and I were looking for a Boxer for our household. We had never rescued a pet before except for our Angel girl so this was a new experience for us. They are a great organization to work with. Their dogs are medically checked out and placed in foster homes. This gives the rescue a chance to see how they react to other animals and humans, especially children.
Boxers are our weakness. Tia is our 4th Boxer. She is actually a Boxer blend, but don’t tell her that. LOL. I had decided that it would be better for us to adopt a smaller dog. Mostly because I was concerned for our 13 year old cat. We even had a cute little 10 lb dog picked out. However, I was talking with one of the foster moms and she wanted to know why we weren’t going for a boxer (larger dogs have a lesser chance of being adopted). I told her my concerns and she said I have the perfect dog for you. She was in a foster home with four other dogs, 3 cats, and a horse. And she got along with all of them. We agreed to meet her. Needless to say I fell in love. I sat on the ground and she walked right over and sat in my lap. No way I was leaving that girl there.
Tia is an absolute delight! She is the most loving dog I have ever had. I love when she gets in my face in the mornings to wake me up and cuddles with us at night. She loves, loves, loves to play ball. And squeaky toys!! You can hear her squeaking her toys in the back yard all day long. Did I say she is spoiled? Yep, and she deserves to be spoiled. She had a rotten life and we do everything we can to make her feel loved and wanted.
Did I mention that Poodle and Pooch Rescue completely vets all of their dogs? They see a vet immediately on arrival for all their medical and dental needs. Surgeries are done, shots given, teeth removal, spaying, neutering. Whatever these precious babies need, they receive. They also chip them.
Poodle and Pooch Rescue is a 501(c)3 non profit organization that saves dogs that truly need help. We rescue the “leftovers” from animal control, the dogs nobody wants because they’re older or suffer from neglect, abuse or have a medical need. Their “last” day becomes the first day of their new life. We provide the veterinary care they need, a foster family they love and when they’re ready, we adopt them to a family who cherishes them. We are all volunteers so your tax-deductible donation goes directly to help the dogs. We have saved over 4,000 dogs since 2008. Please help us save even more with a donation marked “Special Needs”. Our greatest need is for donations for our Special Needs dogs, some of whom you can visit on our website.

I received no compensation from Poodles and Pooch Rescue for this post. I am so grateful for all they do and wanted to share their organization as part of my post.
