Happy Thanksgiving Everyone. I hope your day is filled with loads of of fun, great family memories and as always reasons you are thankful. As we all know Thanksgiving is a day to remember what we are thankful for. It’s a day to put down those cell phones, computers, games and reflect on what we have.
I thought it would be fun to put together a list of fun activities to do on Thanksgiving day with the family and this means not using cells, computers etc.
- “What are you THANKFUL for this year? I always love to hear the answers whether it’s someone small or an adult. We all have something that we are grateful for and this game works for everyone. Some years we name just one thing, other years several. Just depends on what we want to list.
- Start a conversation …. another idea is to come up with 20 or so called questions and go around the table having everyone state their answer. We have listed over 30 questions that you could use at the dinner table. A list of questions could include:
- How’s your day
- What are you thankful for?
- Today is great because…
- What scent are you thankful for…
- What food are you thankful for…
- Name a teacher you are grateful for and why?
- Name a friend you are grateful for and why?
- What is your favorite Bible verse and why?
- If you could thank one person for his or her influence on your life who would you thank?
- What is the most valuable lesson that you have learned this year?
- What are three things that make you smile?
- What is your favorite part of Thanksgiving?
- What random act of kindess have you received this year?

- What would you like to accomplish in the next year?
- What is one thing you really love to do as a family?
- If you could share Thanksgiving with one famous historical figure who would you choose?
- What family member do you wish was at the table with us today?
- What do you appreciate about the change in seasons?
- What is one thing you really love to do as a family?
- What is one unusual tradition or ritual you’d like to make part of your Thanksgiving celebration?
- What is the biggest struggle in your life right now?
- How do you stay focused on gratitude throughout the year?
- Which of your qualities make you a good friend?
- If you could share Thanksgiving dinner with one famous historical figure, who would you choose?
- What song or poem sums up your life over the past year?
- What is the best compliment you’ve been given this last year?
- If you could invent a holiday, what would it be called and what would it celebrate?
- What is your favorite holiday and why is it your favorite?
- When was one time this past year that you did the right thing, even when it was difficult?
- What family member or friend do you wish was with us at the table today?
- What does the term “Give Thanks” Mean to you?
- Play a game of Pictionary – Thanksgiving style. You can use words like Turkey, Fall, Bird, Pilgram, Pilgram Hat, Indians etc.
- Have a Scavenger Hunt — Send the littles and a adult out on a hunt. See who can find the most items. You could include items on the list such as: Things that you are grateful for…. fall items…. things inside or outside.
- Turkey Waddle–Sorta like the sack game but instead of using potato sacks grab some balloons, have the family go outside and waddle like a turkey. Adults and kids both can play this game.
- Play a game of Turkey Bingo. Everyone loves Bingo. Why not add some fun and make it Turkey style. This would be a hit with both adults and kids. Candy corn would be fun as markers instead of bingo chips. Then everyone can eat the candy corn when the game is over.
- Play a game of Pickup Sticks — every time you pick up a stick correctly name something you are grateful for. This is a great way to get the kids involved. We played this game a lot in Sunday School with the kids.
- Guess Who.… Have everyone provide 3-4 facts about themselves and have the other family members guess who. This is always fun. Not only do you learn a few facts about someone but often you get a few laughs.
- Turkey Trivia. Come up with some Thanksgiving Trivia and see who can get the most correct. Kids and adults both love trivia and this game could be made for all. Maybe have a prize for the one who gets the most correct.
- Gratitude Game. This game could be done with M&M’s or even pipe cleaners. Choose a color for each question and then whatever color m&m or pipe cleaner is drawn the adult or child will answer the following questions (or question you choose) —
- Who are you grateful for ……
- What place are you grateful for….
- What food are you grateful for ……
- What thing are your grateful for…..
- Your choice of question……
- For more game ideas look on Pinterest. There are so many games out there that the children and adults would have a great time this holiday season without Cell Phones and other technology.
