Angel’s Transformation

Angel is a long-haired Maine Coon cat. I had never had a long-haired cat before she arrived. She her story here. Therefore, in all the years of owning short-haired cats (and dogs) I had never had to groom them. Just give them a bath and they’re good to go. However, as she has gotten older (almost 16) she has been grooming herself less and less. So now what to do?

I decided I could trim her hair myself and found she loves to be groomed. She would sit on my lap and let me brush her, trim her and wash her with Deodorizing Wipes for cats. Her only issue was when I trimmed the hair from the bottom of her paws. She would sit still for me to do maybe 2 of them but then she was finished. LOL

Did she get a classy, beautiful cut? Of course not! But I was able to keep her comfortable. Last week though I decided she needed a good grooming. She definitely didn’t seem comfortable any more and I was concerned because she was not walking as much.

Off to the groomer she went. I had no idea how she would react since she had never been to a groomer. But she is always a gentle patient when she sees the vet so I was just hoping she would let them at least clip her. A real bath would be a bonus!

I love this cat carrier! It has the top door load that makes it so much easier to put your kitty or dog into the carrier. It also has the regular door load.

I have been using Paws Animal Hospital in The Villages, FL for our vet services for 13 years and absolutely love them. They recently hired a new groomer, Heidi Spano, so that is where I took my precious Angel. She came into the lobby to greet Angel and me, asking what I wanted done. We talked for several minutes to be sure we were on the same page. She told me cats are unpredictable so to allow 1 – 1 1/2 hrs for her session.

Forty minutes later I get a phone call and I’m thinking oh no, she wouldn’t let them groom her. Instead, they say she was so laid back and calm that she was finished. So pleased!

Can I just say that Angel is beautiful! I would never have imagined such beauty under all that hair. She has bright orange eyes and now with her new hairdo they just pop! Angel allowed them to bathe her in the sink, blow dry her hair and trim her nails. I am in total awe.
